Rivalry: Bolt, right, may not have it all his own way in the 100m, as countryman Yohan Blake (left) is the fastest man in the world this year
Bolt remains the fastest in history, with his 100m run at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin of 9.58 seconds, where he reached a speed of 27.4mph.
It followed his performances in the Beijing Olympics when he destroyed the field in both the 100m and 200m. But this time it is Blake – the younger man by three years at 22 – who is the reigning world champion, having taken the title when Bolt was disqualified for a false start in Daegu, South Korea.
