Olympics weightlifting: Behdad Salimikordasiabi wins +105kg gold
Behdad Salimikordasiabi of Iran won gold in the men’s +105kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 455kg.
The world champion entered both stages of the contest late, but comfortably surpassed his rivals.
Fellow Iranian Sajjad Anoushiravani won silver, while Russia’s European champion Ruslan Albegov took the bronze medal.
Salimikordasiabi failed a world record attempt of 264kg in the clean and jerk after securing the Olympic title.
The 23-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow countryman Hossein Rezazadeh, who won this Olympic super heavy title in 2000 and 2004.
